Privacy policy

This site is static. It sets no cookies and loads no fonts, scripts or images from foreign servers; a build step aborts if a foreign host ends up in the output. The only embedded service is the analytics described below, whose script is served from this domain as well.

Server log files

When the site is retrieved, the host processes technically necessary data: the address requested, the time, the amount of data transferred, the referrer, the browser identifier and the shortened IP address. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, the legitimate interest in secure and reliable operation. Log data is deleted automatically after no more than 14 days.

The site is served through Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA), delivered from its edge locations in the EU. Because Cloudflare is a US provider, this involves a transfer to a third country, carried out on the basis of a data processing agreement and the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

Our own analytics

This site measures on its own domain, without cookies and without passing anything to third parties. What is recorded: the page requested, whether more than half of the text was reached or it was read for longer than 30 seconds, whether the end was reached, the host of the referring page, and the window width.

No identifier is set for the reader, neither in a cookie nor in browser storage. Anyone who creates a link through the share button creates a random identifier for that share, not for themselves. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, the legitimate interest in gauging our own reach.

In addition, the analytics service Plausible (plausible.io), a provider based in the EU (Estonia), counts reach in aggregate form: pages requested, referring domains, and the approximate number of visitors. Plausible acts as a processor; the processing takes place on servers in the EU. The script and the endpoint are served through this site's own domain (a proxy), so the browser does not contact Plausible directly. No cookies are set and no identifier that is permanently unique to the reader is created; the IP address is not retained. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
